He is the son of the mighty Odin and the giantess Rind, and he was born with a specific purpose: to avenge the murder of his brother Baldur. According to myths, Vali grew at an unnatural speed—on the very day of his birth, he became a fully grown warrior, strong and determined. His vengeance was swift and relentless. He immediately killed Höðr, the blind god who was responsible for shooting the fatal mistletoe at Baldur.

However, it was widely acknowledged that Höðr did not act of his own will but was manipulated by the cunning Loki. Despite this, revenge was necessary according to the Norse code of honor.

Vali is also known as a god of justice and balance. He symbolizes not just vengeance but also the inevitability of fate. In some versions of the myths, he is mentioned as one of the few gods who survive Ragnarok, suggesting that he plays a role in rebuilding the world after the great catastrophe.

His association with vengeance and destiny has made him a fascinating figure in Norse mythology, even though he rarely takes center stage in preserved texts. His rapid growth, ruthless revenge, and continued existence beyond Ragnarok make him a god who represents both destruction and renewal.
