Njord is the father of the famous twins Freyr and Freyja, both of whom play central roles in Norse mythology. As the ruler of the sea, Njord holds power over seafaring, fishing, and trade. He is also closely associated with the wind, as he can control the breeze and thus influence sailing and coastal weather conditions.

Many believed that his blessing could ensure financial success and material prosperity. Njord is married to the giantess Skadi, but their marriage is an unhappy one. Skadi wished to live in her beloved mountains, while Njord preferred his home by the sea in Noatun. They attempted to split their time between the two places but never found a balance, ultimately parting ways.

Njord survives Ragnarok, the great fate of the gods, and it is suggested that he returns to the land of the Vanir after the world's end. His role in mythology highlights the importance of the sea, wind, and wealth to the Norse people, and he was often invoked by sailors and traders for luck and protection.
