HONIR (Hønir) is a lesser-known but significant god in Norse mythology. He appears in various mythological texts and plays an important role in creation myths and divine alliances. However, his character and function are often mysterious and vary depending on the source. According to the Norse creation story, Honir was one of the three gods—along with Odin and Lodur, who created the first humans, Ask and Embla. He is said to have given them mind or soul, while Odin gave them breath of life, and Lodur provided blood and appearance.

Honir is also known from the story of the Aesir-Vanir war, where he was sent to the Vanir as part of a peace agreement between the two divine groups. Along with the god Mimir, he became part of the Vanir realm, but they quickly became disappointed in him. At first, they believed he was a wise and powerful leader, but he turned out to be indecisive and dependent on Mimir for advice. This led the Vanir to behead Mimir in anger and send his head back to the Aesir.
