In Norse mythology, GEIRRÖD is a fearsome jötunn (giant) known for his hostility toward the gods, especially Thor, the god of thunder. Geirröd rules over a dark and forbidding realm, often associated with cold, cruelty, and treachery. Geirröd's story is best known from the Prose Edda and Skáldskaparmál, where he is depicted as cunning and brutal. Unlike some giants who are more neutral or even friendly toward the gods, Geirröd actively seeks to harm them. He captures Loki, Thor's companion, and coerces him into luring Thor to his hall without his powerful hammer, Mjölnir, and his magical belt of strength. Unaware of the trap, Thor journeys to Geirröd's hall but is warned just in time by the giantess Grid (who is sometimes said to be Geirröd's enemy). She provides Thor with magical tools, including a staff and a girdle of strength, allowing him to survive the ambush.

When Thor arrives at Geirröd's hall, the wicked giant tries to kill him by hurling a massive piece of iron. But Thor, with Grid's magic, catches it and throws it back with such force that it pierces a pillar, a wall, and finally Geirröd himself, killing the treacherous giant. Geirröd's tale serves as a classic example of the ongoing battle between the Aesir (gods) and the Jötnar (giants), embodying chaos, deceit, and the raw forces of nature that the gods must overcome to maintain cosmic balance.
