GEFION is a goddess in Norse mythology, best known for her role in the creation of Zealand (Sjælland). According to legend, the Swedish king Gylfi granted her as much land as she could plow in one night. Gefion transformed her four sons into massive oxen and harnessed them to a plow.

ith their immense strength, they tore a large piece of land away from Sweden, which she then dragged into the sea, forming the island of Zealand. The remaining hole in Sweden became Lake Vänern, whose shape is said to resemble Zealand.

Gefion is often associated with fertility and agriculture but also with fate and magical power. She is mentioned in both Snorri's Edda and The Poetic Edda, where she is described as a mighty and cunning goddess.

A famous bronze statue of Gefion and her oxen stands at Langelinie in Copenhagen, commemorating her mythological achievement. Over time, she has become a symbol of strength, creation, and the connection between gods and humans.
