Loki, the cunning and jealous god, exploited this and tricked Baldur's blind brother, Höðr, into shooting him with an arrow made of mistletoe. Baldur fell dead, and his death became one of the greatest tragedies in Asgard.

His death marked the beginning of Ragnarok, the great downfall of the gods. Attempts to bring him back from the realm of the dead failed when Loki once again interfered and prevented his resurrection. Baldur symbolizes light, purity, and hope, but his fate also shows how even the purest beauty can be fragile in a world filled with deceit and predestined events.
